Enterprise resource planning (ERP) has its roots in large-scale manufacturing, but has evolved to address the needs of many organizations, especially SMBs requiring integrated systems that allow them to compete in today's global marketplace.
A new generation of ERP solutions is now managing all facets of the progressive SMB's operations, serving as the collective 'brain' of the organization with a central repository of information from various aspects of the business -- supply chain, human resources, inventory, cash flow etc. Key to the ERP program is shared access to a common database within the company.
For SMBs, the most important criterion in selecting an ERP system is finding the right fit between software and business processes. Also, since the typical life span of an ERP system is 10 to 15 years, it needs to scale upward as an SMB grows, as well as downward in times when the business needs to maintain only a 'lean and mean' team.
What are some other critical considerations? This eGuide will provide you with the resources and advice necessary to evaluate and implement a successful ERP program.
